What’s Going on in Puerto Rico?

If you don’t quite understand today’s comic, let me bring you up to speed. Right now in Puerto Rico, the budget to pay all the government workers has run out. This means that over 200,000 people will not be able to be paid starting May 1. From what I found in this CNN article, the reason for the shutdown is a lack of an agreement to finalize a new budget. The government had to use the 2004 budget in the meantime, which obviously isn’t up to date.

On Friday one of my coworkers explained to me that the Governor wanted to make some public announcements to the 3.9 million residents affected by this crisis. He figured the best possible way to do this would be to appear on the top local television show. This being “SuperXclusico” hosted by a puppet named La Comay.

Hopefully everything will work out down there. Maybe to cheer everyone up we can all catch another showing of America’s best comedy act.
